After successfully passing his Private Pilot checkride on Monday, August 6, Mogley Samter showed his joy by performing a standing back flip on the airport taxiway.

Many hours of flight and study culminated in his completion of a three and a half hour oral exam, and a two-hour flight with FAA Designated Examiner Rickey Harber (also pictured).

Mogley’s flight training began over a year ago. His first solo (flying the plane by himself and without the instructor) happened on August 3, 2006. Shortly thereafter he bought a home here in Bonners Ferry, and after a couple other unexpected delays through no fault of his own, his training was interrupted for a while. But, as soon as he could, he got right back to flying.

Being a private pilot allows Mogley to take his friends and family with him when he flies. Maybe he’ll even do another back flip for his passengers.
