Circuit Breaker and Homeowner Exemption Deadline April 15
The deadline for filing property tax relief applications for the Circuit Breaker and Homeowner Exemptions must be filed at the Boundary County Assessors Office no later than April 15.
The circuit breaker program must be applied for each year between January 1 and April 15. This program is available for homeowners who are 65 years of age or older, a widow or widower, disabled, blind, a former prisoner of war or a fatherless or motherless child under the age of 18. You must first qualify for the Homeowner Exemption in order to apply for the Circuit Breaker Exemption, and the amount of assistance is based on your income. The Homeowner Exemption provides a reduction in the taxable value of your owner-occupied residence. The amount of reduction is typically the lesser of $81,000 or 50% of the of the current market value. Generally, you only need to apply for the Homeowners Exemption once unless ownership or residency changes.
Those wishing to apply for either relief program are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.
