MITIGATION ACTIONS

1.         Schedule yearly inspections and maintenance of all bridges, culverts and dikes.

Lead Agency:               Local highway districts

Supporting Agencies: LEPC, Boundary County Office of Emergency Management, Idaho Department of Transportation, private property owners, property owner associations, and interested community groups

When:                          Annually as needed

Resources/Funding:       Annual agency budgets, service groups, clean-up contingency funds, Sheriff’s Labor Program

2.         Schedule yearly inspection and maintenance of critical facilities.

Lead Agency:               Boundary County Emergency Management

Supporting Agencies: Boundary County Sheriff’s Office, LEPC, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Idaho Department of Transportation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, private property owners, interested community groups

When:                          Annually

Resources/Funding:       Annual agency budgets

PUBLIC EDUCATION AND AWARENESS

1.         Develop and distribute information about earthquake hazards, building regulations, and private structure inspections.

Lead Agency:               Boundary County Planning and Zoning

Supporting Agencies: LEPC, Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security, other county, state, and federal agencies, and Boundary County Building and Planning Department

When:                          One year, then ongoing

Resources/Funding:       Federal and state grants, local budgets  

2.         Develop a partnership with local schools to promote education about earthquake and emergency preparedness.

Lead Agency:               Boundary County Office of Emergency Management

Supporting Agencies:    LEPC, Local school districts and local fire departments, Boundary County Building and Planning Department, and Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge

When:                          One year, then ongoing

Resources/Funding:       FEMA and EPA grants, Idaho Department of Education, local school district budgets, National Weather Service, Red Cross

EMERGENCY SERVICES

1.         Notify the Office of Emergency Management about any reported earthquakes.

Lead Agency:               Boundary County Office of Emergency Management

Supporting Agencies: Local fire districts, local highway districts and LEPC

When:                          Ongoing

Resources/Funding:       FEMA and state disaster mitigation funds, county budget, fire and highway district budgets           

2.         Plan for and maximize emergency access to all public and private property during an earthquake.

Lead Agency:               Boundary County Highway Districts

Supporting Agencies:    Boundary County Sheriff’s Department, local highway Districts, Idaho State Department of Transportation, Boundary County Planning and Zoning

When:                          Two to five years

Resources/Funding:       FEMA grants, local and state budgets

3.         Support initiatives to improve communication to inform the public of the effective advanced warning.

Lead Agency:               Boundary County Emergency Management

Supporting Agencies: Boundary County Office of Emergency Management, Natural Resources and Conservation Service, US Geological Survey, National Weather Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, local elected officials

When:                          Two to five years
